Polling dates of Village Representative Election gazetted
The 2011 Village Representative Election will be held in January 2011. The respective polling date for each village was published in the Gazette today (October 15).
The Indigenous Inhabitant Representative Election and the Resident Representative Election will be conducted on four consecutive Sundays from January 2 to 23, 2011. The polling hours are from noon to 7pm.
The nomination period will be from November 13 to 26, 2010.
A polling notice, specifying the polling date, address of the polling station and polling hours will be issued to each eligible elector at least 10 days before the polling day for the respective village.
A government spokesman appealed to all eligible persons to participate in the election.
The Village Representative Election is arranged as stipulated in the "Village Representative Election Ordinance". At present, there are 709 villages with a total of 1,484 Village Representative seats, including 695 Resident Representative seats and 789 Indigenous Inhabitant Representative seats.
