Nominations of candidates for Village Representative Election to start tomorrow
The nomination of candidates for the Indigenous Inhabitant Representative and Resident Representative elections, under the 2011 Village Representative Elections, will start tomorrow (November 13) and end on November 26.
For the Indigenous Inhabitant Representative election, a candidate must be an indigenous inhabitant as well as an elector of the Indigenous Village/Composite Indigenous Village and ordinarily reside in Hong Kong.
For the Resident Representative election, a candidate must be a resident of the Existing Village and have resided there for six years immediately preceding the nomination. He or she must also be an elector of the village.
Candidates of both categories must be permanent Hong Kong residents aged 21 or above. No person is allowed to stand as a candidate in more than one village. Each candidate must be nominated by at least five electors from that village, while each elector can make nominations not exceeding the number of village representatives for the respective village.
Nomination forms are available at the Public Enquiry Service Centres of every New Territories District Office, the Home Affairs Department Headquarters and the Village Representative Election website ( www.had.gov.hk/vre ).
Nomination forms must be submitted in person on or before November 26 to the Returning Officers, who are the District Officers for the respective villages, between 9am and 5pm from Mondays to Fridays, and from 9am to noon on Saturdays, except public holidays.
A gazette notice on valid nominations will be published within 14 days after the nomination period. Each validly nominated candidate will be informed separately.
