2011 Village Ordinary Election nominations end today
The Home Affairs Department (HAD) received a total of 1,775 nomination forms for the 2011 Village Ordinary Election when the nomination period ended at 5pm today (November 26). They comprise 1,020 nominations for Indigenous Inhabitant Representative elections and 755 nominations for Resident Representative elections.
An HAD spokesman said the name list of nominated candidates would be uploaded onto website for public inspection (www.had.gov.hk/vre). After vetting and verification of the eligibility of the candidates, the department will publish a gazette notice on valid nominations on December 10.
The election will be held on four consecutive Sundays on January 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2011. A total of 182,702 electors are eligible to vote in the elections.
A total of 709 villages are listed on the schedule of the Village Representative Election Ordinance (Chapter 576). There are a total of 1,484 Village Representative seats, including 695 Resident Representative seats and 789 Indigenous Inhabitant Representative seats.
The last Village Ordinary Election was held in 2007 with 1,656 nomination forms received and 170,596 registered electors.
