Kwai Tsing District
Welcome Message from Huggin TANG, JP, District Officer (Kwai Tsing)
Welcome to the homepage of the Kwai Tsing District Office.
Kwai Tsing Container Terminals is a major infrastructure for Hong Kong’s role as an International Transportation Centre, while Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, Route 8, Route 9, etc. in the district are major infrastructures for Hong Kong’s role as a trade and transportation hub in the Greater Bay Area. Kwai Tsing has evolved from a rural village to an industrial area, and today is a livable community with a mix of industry and commerce, where modern commercial buildings, fashionable designer shops and relaxing boutique cafes can be found in the industrial area of Kwai Tsing.
The Kwai Tsing District Office (K&TDO) is the key promoter of District Administration. We have been working closely with the District Council and assisting the District Council in reflecting views to different government departments. In addition, we strive to strengthen ties with the community and to collect a broad spectrum of opinions through the Area Committees, the Fight Crime Committee, the Fire Safety Committee, the Youth Programme Committee, etc., with a view to ensuring that the Government’s policies can address people’s pressing needs.
K&TDO attaches great importance to youth development and strives to nurture a new generation of young people in Kwai Tsing with an affection for our country and Hong Kong and equipped with global perspectives, an aspiring mindset and positive thinking. K&TDO resumed the organisation of the Kwai Tsing District Sports Festival in 2022, offering a variety of ball games and athletic tournaments to break the barriers through sports competition and to arose the enthusiasm of residents, especially the youth, for sports. K&TDO also organised the Kwai Tsing E-sports Promotion and Competition Tour in 2022 to introduce e-sports to young people in Kwai Tsing through seminars and workshops, so as to allow them to put into practice what they have learnt through competitions and to foster the spirit of solidarity and mutual support among young people.
Besides, K&TDO established the Kwai Tsing District Youth Development Network in 2014 to enhance communication with the youth in the district and encourage them to participate in community services, such as by organizing volunteer teams to visit the elderly. It also extends their experience in different learning areas, such as by taking them to visit experimental farms and hydroponics research and development centre to give them an in-depth understanding of local agriculture and aquaculture.
In the years to come, I will join hands with the K&TDO team and enthusiastic community organisations and make a concerted effort to build a vibrant and continuously developing Kwai Tsing community for Hong Kong.
