Tai Po District

Welcome Message from Ms Eunice CHAN, JP, District Officer (Tai Po)

Welcome to the homepage of Tai Po District Office.

Tai Po District has a long history and is a place where the rural and the city mix well. The district is made up of two distinct geographical areas - Tai Po proper and Sai Kung North, and has a population of some 300,000 residents. The tenure of the seventh-term Tai Po District Council has commenced on 1 January 2024. In this term, there are 22 District Council Members, comprising eight District Committees constituency members, eight appointed members, four District Council geographical constituency members and two ex-officio members.

Tai Po used to be a simple village town with historical relics and charming rural scenery. With the change of time and the need of urban development, Tai Po has rapidly transformed into a thriving modern town over the past thirty years. To date, the town centre of Tai Po is very busy and prosperous with lots of shopping malls and various stores; nevertheless, the traditional appearance of the villages in the rural area have been preserved where you can find many structures of walled villages, ancestral halls and old temples. In addition, with the scenic attractions such as Plover Cove, Pat Sin Leng, Tai Mei Tuk, Bride's Pool, Sha Lo Tung, Tung Ping Chau, Tap Mun etc., the beautiful countryside of Tai Po, which is renowned as the "back garden" of Hong Kong, is crowded with hikers and visitors in weekends and holidays, where you can elude the hustle and bustle of the city. You can find the marvel here in Tai Po that the peace and tranquility of the rural area coexist in harmony with the bustling town centre.

Over the years, the local organisations in Tai Po have been playing an active part in providing a wide range of community services for local residents in a harmonious manner. I would like to thank them for their contribution in earning Tai Po the name of "Harmony Community".

The Tai Po District Office will continue to closely liaise with the local organisations and will strive for a better, more harmonious and more flourishing Tai Po together. I would also like to sincerely invite you to experience how fascinating Tai Po is.
