Tsuen Wan District

Welcome Message from Billy AU, JP, District Officer (Tsuen Wan)

Welcome to the homepage of the Tsuen Wan District Office.

Tsuen Wan is noted as a harmonious district. The Tsuen Wan District Office spares no effort in serving Tsuen Wan, making it a quality place for living and working. We consult the residents on the policies and services of the Government, and reflect their views to the Government. We also motivate and support local organisations in participating in community affairs, and in organising different activities to enrich the quality of life for local residents. Besides, Care Teams were established in 2023 with the aims to consolidate community resources and forces to support the Government’s district work and strengthen district networks, organise caring activities and assist in handling incidents and emergencies. The Care Teams also help the Government disseminate information to the public and report the views of the public to the Government.

The seventh term of the Tsuen Wan District Council came into operation on 1 January 2024. We, in collaboration with relevant government departments, shall continue to work closely with the Tsuen Wan District Council, Area Committees, District Fight Crime Committee and District Fire Safety Committee of Tsuen Wan District, local organisations, non-governmental organisations, clansman organisations, charity groups, uniformed groups, youth organisations and religious groups, etc. to facilitate the provision of services and facilities at the district level, with a view to improving the environment of the district, upgrading the quality of life, and strengthening the sense of belonging of the residents.

Profile (Tsuen Wan District)

Profile (Tsuen Wan District)

Tsuen Wan is located in the south-western part of the New Territories. Ma Wan and the north-eastern part of Lantau Island also fall within the boundary of Tsuen Wan District. Covering an area of about 62 square kilometres, Tsuen Wan is home to a population of 320 000 odd, with around 65 000 people residing in public rental housing and subsidised housing (namely Lei Muk Shue Estate, Cheung Shan Estate, Shek Wai Kok Estate, Fuk Loi Estate, Clague Garden Estate, Moon Lok Dai Ha, Bo Shek Mansion and Sheung Chui Court). The remaining population dwells in private buildings, varied from large private housing estates, old tenement buildings and village houses. Situated between Kowloon and the New Territories, Tsuen Wan serves as a major link between the western part of the New Territories/Lantau and the urban area, and is the gateway to the airport.

Tsuen Wan was an industrial centre in the early days and was developed into the first new town in the New Territories by the Government in 1960s. While Tsuen Wan has evolved into an area with commercial, residential, leisure and tourist developments over the years, many historic buildings, such as Sam Tung Uk Museum and The Mills, are properly preserved. Tsuen wan is also characterised by its extensive footbridge network in the town centre, which also brings convenience to the residents and visitors. In addition, a number of tourist attractions and leisure destinations are scattered around Tsuen Wan, including Yuen Yuen Institute, Western Monastery, Chuk Lam Sim Yuen, etc. (forming the temple compound situated around Lo Wai), as well as the best loved scenic spots such as Tai Mo Shan Country Park, Shing Mun Country Park and Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail, etc. Tsuen Wan is also a gastronomic paradise to food lovers as they may enjoy mouth-watering delights at the gourmet restaurants in Sham Tseng, countryside teahouses in Chuen Lung and local diners in the town centre. Meanwhile, the beaches in Ting Kau area, along with the jogging track and cycling track at Tsuen Wan West harbourfront are popular among sports enthusiasts.
