Tuen Mun District
Welcome Message from Michael KWAN, JP, District Officer (Tuen Mun)
Tuen Mun is home to more than 500 000 Hong Kong people. Over the decades, it has evolved from a remote district in New Territories West into a new town with remarkable transport connections and community facilities. The improvement of outward traffic of the district upon completion of some large infrastructure projects, like MTR West Rail line and the widening of Tuen Mun Road, has significantly shortened the travelling time to and from urban areas as compared to the past. The connections between Tuen Mun and other districts as well as the Mainland boundary crossings have been greatly improved and commercial activities in Tuen Mun have blossomed in recent years. The residents of Tuen Mun can now enjoy a full array of community, recreational and cultural facilities without the need to travel elsewhere. We expect locals to be able to spend more time with their family in the district and will continue to work with our partners including the Tuen Mun District Council, various government offices and the local community to provide quality living environment in the district.
The Tuen Mun District Office is a member of the Tuen Mun community, and is here to serve. We are here to listen to the views of Tuen Mun residents, work together with Tuen Mun District Council and local community and strive to coordinate with various departments to provide a people-oriented public service.
Serving Tuen Mun in a pragmatic and proactive manner within our capabilities shall be the motto for Tuen Mun District Office.

Profile (Tuen Mun District)

Located at far west of the New Territories, Tuen Mun District has an area of about 85 km2 with a population of over 500,000. While the LRT is the major means of transport plying through the district, Tuen Mun Road and Castle Peak Road are the main transport links with the Northwest New Territories to the north and urban Kowloon to the south. Outward access of transport is even more convenient with the commissioning of the West Rail and the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor.

Not only is the district self-contained with community facilities, there are also quite a number of scenic spots for tourists. Most special is the long stretch of coastline shared by five neighbouring beaches to the south-east which are important sight spots for the development of local tourism. Along the Urmston Road to the south-west, people will often get the sight of Chinese White Dolphins. Other typical sights include the Tsing Shan Monastery which can be dated back to over 1,500 years ago, Ching Chung Koon the Taoist temple and the Hong Kong Gold Coast Dolphin Square nearby the Golden Beach.
